League of Minnesota Cities Board Adopts 2025 Legislative Policy Priorities

The 14 priorities will help to focus the League’s advocacy efforts in 2025.

The League Board of Directors adopted an encompassing set of legislative priorities on Nov. 7. The priorities will help focus the League’s advocacy efforts during the 2025 legislative session, which begins on Jan. 14, 2025.

The legislative priorities are based on the Board’s assessment of member interest as well as anticipated legislative issue areas for cities for the 2025 session.

The 14 priorities do not reflect the entire scope of the League’s anticipated activities at the Legislature during the 2025 legislative session. Additionally, the list may be modified by Board action.

The 14 priorities for 2025 are (listed alphabetically):

  • Adult-use cannabis
  • Bonding
  • Elections
  • Emerald ash borer (EAB)
  • Emergency medical services (EMS)
  • Employment issues
  • Housing
  • Local government aid (LGA)
  • Local decision-making
  • Local sales taxes
  • Public safety duty disability
  • Sales tax exemption on construction materials
  • Transportation funding
  • Water infrastructure and policies

The Board also approved the LMC 2025 Cities Policies on Nov. 7, 2024.
